I WOULD RATHER NOT LOOSE THE MUSIC ALREADY ON THE IPOD.

You can only sync with one library at a time. With iTunes this means computers. When you sync with different computers you can only sync the information that is on that computer and you will lose anything that is not on that computer. Was the music on the iPod Classic downloaded from iTunes or ripped from a CD?
Was waiting for daughter's reply. She had set her granpa's music up on the Classic originally. and I had trouble figuring out how to reply on this system! Thanks for you response. The music was originally ripped from CDs. I have not yet connected the original computer or charged up his laptop which I will have to do this weekend. Dad passed away last year so we now have some of his stuff.

I'm sorry to hear about your Dad.
Since the music was originally ripped from CD, you should be able to put the iPod into disk mode http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1363 and transfer the music into your library without loosing anything.
I have Dad's Ipod Classic previously set up with music from another computer/ Itunes account. Now wish to add music from my itunes library on my computer (windows XP) and Laptop (windows 7). Did click on music
