macbook air cracked screen

asked a second group of genius guys after i spent time reading all these posts...and one of them told me I may have closed my screen on a rock that was on my keyboard...not sure what they use their computer for...but i can safely say I have never had a rock on my keyboard EVER.

I know how you feel. Any idea if the computer was hot at the time you closed the lid ? (i.e. were you doing something graphics intensive or had been using it for a long time). My latest pet suspicion is that overheating may be the culprit. Closing the lid will reduce the conductive cooling of the base unit. It can only cool down by radiating heat down into the surface the computer is sitting on or up into the screen when it is lying closed above the keyboard.

To guard against cooking the screen, I now put mine to sleep and don't physically close the lid if it feels hot to touch (especially the base unit).

I say u go to an apple store and demand a replacement or try to work ur way into a replacement ur screen might of had micro cracks which u couldnt see

Another one here, my spotless and well-maintained late 2010 Air cracked yesterday right before my eyes: I was watching a series in bed, looked away to set the alarm, and when I looked back noticed a "spider" on the bottom-left side and a hailrline crack about 5cm long going up. I am very ****** right now, it is frustrating because I know how it happened but if is difficult to believe for everybody else, particularly the customer service robots who are trained. We'll see what the genious say at the applestore. Anybody got apple to cover the repair?. Any advice?

My 2012, already repaired Air cracked in December. Apple store made it seem it was my fault, which it isn't.

I am livid! I've been buying Apple products and paying more for good quality, but judging by the number of people with MacBook Air cracked screen, I can see the problem isn't mine.

Wake up Apple. I'm not letting this one go. I will not spend another $1000 on a laptop that is defective. The motherboard fried once already, as did the hard drive. This isn't Apple quality we've come to expect. I am furious at the loss of productivity and denail from Apple.

Apple uses the best parts on the Air, there is no issue regarding cracked screens.

Regardless of Air or macbook Pro, laptops are ALL fragile, ...

2 "must have" on any portable laptop, is a quality case second, and theft/ accident/ lost insurance FIRST; to cover things a conventional warranty doesnt cover.

I'm not sure what you mean by there are no issues with cracked screens with MacBook Air. Have you googled this? That will will show there are a lot of ticked off customers, me included.

Nothing is 100% and this Air has already had its mother board and HD replaced. So that doesn't equate. You can have a bad batch that only acts up years later. Too many people have that problem anyway.

I'm old enough and from a different generation to know when I mess up something, and not in this case. This latptop stays put anyway also, so the point is moot.

You have no idea what you are talking about. MBA screens DO crack without abuse. Screen cracks and trackpads are the most common problems with the MBA. They are too fragile for normal use as a fulltime laptop computer and just because someones screen cracks does not mean they are a liar.

This is a board for those with problems, not for those for whom all is ok.

As pertains an "issue" regarding the Air and its screen, there is no such issue by denotation and definition. An "issue" or as meant "known problem" does not apply here.

However anyone rightly so, coming to a board for those with problems and a problem of their own can falsely draw a connotative and incorrect conclusion to that end.

*Anyone in the Hospital waiting room for flu, and seeing 20 other people with the Flu, would, or could conclude "flu is rampant",...this board is exactly like a Hospital waiting room, and that must be taken into consideration, obviously.

Screens crack on all laptops, as a former laptop hardware tech, the nature of a laptop is its fragile by design and needs protection.

However it is not appropriate to spread an incorrect conclusion about the Air and make incorrect generalizations about a product countless people are using, are happy with same.

Ive personally handled 6 macbook Air that were dropped on hard rock, all 6 were working fine, no cracked screens, however scuffs and minor dents were present.

The Air actually fares better in drops than most larger laptops when dropped on their screens, ...Why? much less mass at point of impact and the non-plastic alloy unibody of the casing of the Air which doesn't flex as plastic does which causes glass to bend to the point of cracking. 😊

Nobody that has a cracked screen is a "liar",...however you shouldnt draw incorrect conclusions about the Air "in general"

You are probably well-meaning but lack empathy. When someone's laptop screens breaks for no apparent reason, it is a distressing situation. When you Google it and see others reporting the same, it is frustrating. When the Apple store that used to change faulty products, that upheld stellar cutomer handling and made you switch doesn't do that, it ruffles up you feathers. When someone gets on a thread and says you are probably to blame, it becomes infuriating. Can you empathise with that?

Google MacBook Air cracked screen and see many people report the same strange problems. One day the screen is OK, the next, there is a crack with NO rough handling. Then come back here and see what people are feeling and going through, then you can add to the thread if you have the same problem or know how to make it better. Do you have a cracked screen?

To reiterate again, I closed mine as I do every evening, next day opening it, there is a crack. This is not a mishandling issue. Obviously, a laptop is fragile, no point in saying obvious things. You may not imply anyone is reponsible, when you know not. I've never dropped my MacBook Air even if they are light enough not to break from a reasonable distance. But what does this have to do with this thread where people talk about cracked screens problems out of nowhere? What point are you making saying people spread skewed conculsions without knowing or understanding what they are going through?

Some MacBook Air apparently have problems, as mine has had more than its fair share and Apple, who used to change products without questions isn't anymore. This thread is a testament and Google backs that up, wuth YouTube videos. When a $1200 laptop breaks on its own, there is very little peace to be found and IT IS a very real problem, statistics and laws of physics aside. I don't think that is hard to understand. That, is a problem. Facts are facts. Google it. That point is moot, whether you end it with "Peace" or not.

Hi guys so my MacBook Air screen has also cracked at about 16 months old no outside damage no rough handling as it just lives in my room and doesn't travel very often just a weird pixel situation I understand from these posts that there isn't much my apple care covers when it comes to this type of damage/defect. How much does it cost to repair? There are mentions from $400-$800. Seems like a lot for a $1500 notebook does this mean the screen needs to be replaced? This *****! I've had 2 previous laptops one was the good old cheap standard MacBook and never had this issue before :(
