1st Generation Apple TV Issues

So I have purchased new batteries for my remotes, re-synced my movies, and all of my content is there to the best of my knowledge... THe issue I am experiencing is though I can see the start up page, I just cannot navigate throughout any of it. Is there a hard shut off or something else I can do from my computer, since I do not have access within my 1st Generation Apple TV?
