this is my issue
I have just tried installing an application on my mac running lion 10.7.4 and I get this pop up error:
“app name” is damaged and can’t be opened. You should move it to the Trash.
Clicking on the help icon takes me to this help message in mac help:
The app has been modified or damaged
The app’s code does not match the original code that was signed. The app has been modfied, it may be broken, corrupted, or tampered with. If you feel the application is damaged or tampered with, you should delete it by dragging it to the trash.
Currently some applications and tools modify themselves after signing, such as AppleScript applications and some legacy tools. These types of applications cannot be opened unless Gatekeeper in the Security & Privacy preferences is set to “Anywhere.”
Open the General pane of Security & Privacy preferences

When I go to system preferences there is no gatekeep option in security. However, if I search for gatekeeper in the system preferences search box, it appears and highlights the security section, when clicking on it however it still does not show any security options for gatekeeper.
thinking gatekeeper maybe running I tried to disable it in terminal and it returns : api object error
I downloaded this said app on a friends macbook running the save verson of lion and it loaded fine with just the "downloaded from the internet" warning but still able to open
christopher-cavenders-macbook:~ Ryno$ sudo spctl --status
assessments enabled
christopher-cavenders-macbook:~ Ryno$ sudo spctl --disable
error: invalid API object reference
I checked a friends mac and his came back disabled. How do fix this
