AMD Radeon HD 6770m Display Driver Update Problems

I posted the following in a couple of related threads:

Despite all of these helpful posts from the community, I'm still coming up short. I'm attempting to update my ATI Radeon HD 6770m driver on windows 7 64-bit. I've followed this guide:

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3866652?start=0&tstart=0

(fourth post down) - I also use Drive Sweeper after using CCCleaner and device manager uninstall.

Every time I attempt to install the driver after rebooting, I receive an error message stating "Driver install: the INF file was not found" with a log stating that the driver failed to install upon completion. Rebooting at this point does nothing. *Fun side note: Intenet Explorer crashes repeatedly after this step every time

When I attempt to use control panel>Device Manager>Display Adapters>Update Driver Software>Browse My Computer For Driver Software and then choose the appropriate file path (including subfolders) or by choosing from a list of device drivers and selecting one of the two inf files in c:/amd/support/12-2_mobility../packages/drivers/display/w76a_inf, I receive the following error message:

"Windows Encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device

Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it.

AMD Radeon HD 6700m Series

There is no driver selected for the device information set or element.

If you know the manufacturer of your device, you can visit its website and check the support section for driver software."

I'm hitting nothing but dead ends here. I just want to play SWTOR with an updated driver!

Please provide a detailed, step-by-step solution (if you have one). It is not safe to assume that I have any experience regarding graphics drivers or running windows in bootcamp. Thanks in advance.

Maybe it is impossible to write an FAQ for every person and computer setup to update graphic driver.

Some have steps they used but are not necessary let alone essential.

Some have different iMac gpu. Or MacBook Pro.

One post has hard coded links to older programs and drivers.

This is where to go for drivers for AMD:

When someone said "this works" I bookmarked and they are accessible in my public bookmarks.

ATi Display Driver is already installed and up to date?

A better approach is to me, practice makes perfect, learn is always and only through mistakes and trieal and error. Same for playing sports or a military. Have learned how better to install Windows even from multiple times.

AMD Auto Detect program does not seem to work on Macs, can try of course, but only after removing the Apple driver.

It would probably I am 90% sure be better if there wasn't even an Apple gpui driver, and would make the Boot Camp package smaller, if there was none. Just let Windows and on your own install driver.

But it use to be normal and necessary if only on laptop or mobile boards to "enable" the chipset.

Take everything with a grain of salt.

I do see people like this one:

Anyway, the AMD Mobility driver package did install on the iMac ... After downloading the AMD per-installer.

pss: a little (okay, a lot) of time with google and cut-and-paste. So please, anyone can read, can put together some links I assume or they wouldn't be here.

I had similar driver problems as jxhn's but with a MacBook Pro 17" running Windows 7 64-bit with Bootcamp.

Wasn't able to add an external monitor to the system. Although Windows control panel and connect to projector acted as if the monitor was there, it was blank and went to sleep within a second.

Downloaded multiple versions of drivers and Catalyst from AMD but no success until I installed the June 28 beta drivers below. Before the drivers finished installing, my second monitor kick into life and works fine.

Hi There

I was having a similar issue with my bosses MBP 17" (Late 2011) recently and have been hunting and hunting for an answer and I hate to necro threads but for anybody that searches, this might help a lot:

AMD release specific Bootcamp Software for their GPUs which I found with a little searching: Here is a link to that latest release from December 2014
