Q: kernel errors after updating to 10.7.4

Hello Gurus,

Just now, I updated my iMac to 10.7.4, I am seeing errors in console log .

I tried restarting, resetting SMC and PRAM and it keeps showing up when I restart.

I tried repairing disk as suggested by one member and it did not help.

 

 

Anyone experiencing similar issues,

BTW, I updated the OS on my MacBookPro and I don't see these errors.

Download Combo 10.7.3  extract AppleSMC.kext from 10.7.3 with PACIFIST. Go to MacintoshHD/System/Library/Extension and delete AppleSMC.kext (10.7.4)... Use KEXT HELPER http://cheetha.net/ to install old AppleSMC.kext from 10.7.3 to location MacintosHD/System/Library/Extensions.... Repair Disk Permissions, restart and enjoy without errors

    Have you tried downloading and installing the 10.7.4 Client Combo? I always do that instead of the Software Update for point releases. It's always larger and sometimes fixes issues from the Software Update.

    Those errors appear from the 11E46, some interesting AppleSMC changes in 10.7.4, and also vestiges of Mountain Lion in Power Management.

    Replace "AppleSMC.kext" from the one in 10.7.3 and the error is gone !

    Combo update did not help. Same errors..

     

    I reinstalled LION and went back to 10.7.3. No more issues.

    I will wait for some more time and see if a fix comes from Apple.

    could you please explain a little bit more?

    i'm on 1.7.4 and getting also smc-errors.

    even hard crashes.

    (this is on a late 2009 imac)

     

    were do i find find the applesmc.kext?

    I'm having this same issue too (early '08 Macbook).

     

    Can you explain the fix you used a little bit more Laris?

    Are you using iStat nano or iStat Pro?  I found these to be the source of this error on my system.  Try Disabling the app and rebooting.

    Do you know what apple changed with the new smc.kext in 10.7.4?

    will there be any side-effects in using the "old" kext (like sleep issues)?

     

    so i understand the my smc on my late 2009 imac (i7) might be not compatible to the new smc.kext in 10.7.4

    meaning apple would also have to update the smc itself?

    DO NOT manually downgrade the kernel extension just because the new version exposed a bug in one of the applications using it, for all you know the 10.7.4 version of the extension could have fixed serious bugs (security or otherwise) and downgrading will only make you susceptible to them potentially making your operating system unstable and/or unsecure overall.

     

    All those errors you pasted are just the result of some application asking the kernel for a SMC sensor that does not exist, e.g.: on the first line you pasted is asked for the IN0C sensor.

     

    Previously the kernel did not log errors when asked about SMC sensors it does not have, this is what changed in 10.7.4

    Thanks for this explanation. Is there a way to find out which application is responsible so that I can disable it. This message gets logged every 5 seconds in my console too and I would like to get rid of it. Someone in this thread pointed a finger to iStat, which I use but nothing changed after disabling it.

    Seeing the same console log errors, but 10.7.4 is working without issue on both an MBP mid-2010 and Mac Mini mid-2011. No issues with the update.

    There is no definitive way to search for all possible applications, it can be any application querying temperature,fan speed etc SMC data, you can single it out by gradually quitting all third party processes running on your machine while checking after each one if the messages stopped.
