How much content will fit on my iPod or iPhone?

Cheers, Tom 😉
Personally? I second the netbook recommendation. The iPad is great and a fun device...but it's largely a 'consumer' device....made to consume data. Watch movies, listen to music, read eBooks. It does create data, but sometimes takes some tweakage. For example to type good, you'll probably need a bluetooth keyboard. Printing is a challenge at best since so few printers are compatible with it without an extra app. It's very difficult to get files onto it without syncing or e-mailing. while a netbook has fewer of these challenges. You'll also have hundreds of gigs to carry around the info you need instead of just a few. Not to mention the ease of plugging in a flash drive or portable harddrive.
As to size....I have a 16 gig and I have 4 movies, a few albums, hundreds of documents and a bunch of photos and I have 1-2 gig free. So I get by fine, I just can't hoard too many photos. And if I didn't want to keep movies always around, I'd have even more room. If I had to do it all over again, I'd probablly go for the 32 gig, just so I can dump stuff on it and not mess with it.
But, if I were a student, I'd use my netbook for class. It may not be as cool as an iPad, but it's greater compatibility can be helpful so you can spend less time trying to make your device do what you want and more time simply getting your studies done.
My original iPad (purchased two years ago) is 16GB and served me well, but I did find from time to time when I was always from a WiFi connection that it was a bit limiting. We I bought the new one last month, I went with 32GB and don't regret it at all.
But I would have to second the suggestions that maybe an iPad isn't the best solution for you. As a device for creating content, it is a bit limited, and can be awkward to use. If you are set on an Apple device, a MacBookAir would be worth considering. If you are open to Windows devices, there several inexpensive models around. One caveat: in the long run, the Air might be a more cost effective solution since it will last you longer than any of those net books, at least in my opinion. But it will cost you more out of the gate.
I am glad of the support I have got! The Netbook will see you through your university days by which time you hopefully will know what direction your career is going and what type of computer is most suitable then! All the best on your studies!
If the student is required to have an iPad by their school, and yes a lot of schools are starting to require them, is it because they want the student's to download their text books to the iPad? If so I would go with a 32 GB version at a minimum. The text books that are currently starting to become available are huge in size because many of them include more than just text and graphics. They may include video, audio and small apps for demonstrating principles being discussed.
Also I agree with the response about the limitations of the WiFi only iPad. WiFi is becoming more and more prevalent but you can't always count on it being available.
I bought a 32 GB WiFi/3G iPad 2 and a logitech bluetooth keyboard. For most things this works just as well for me as a net book would. The downside to this setup is the limitation on how you can get documents and files onto and off of the iPad. Because it is basically an entertainment device designed to facilitate the sale of music, books and movies Apple has made it difficult to get files on and off to prevent, as much as possible, the sharing of these types of files. But if you use a service like DropBox it isn't too hard. In fact it is easier to use than iCloud for moving docs and files around.
Depends on your needs. I have a 16gb iPad and still have plenty of space. I find that the only thing that really takes up considerable space are movies, but having said that, if you get a 32gb from somewhere cheap, do that.
The company currently offers versions of the phone with 16 GB and 32 GB.
In terms of storage space, the iPod touch is comparable to the iPhone and the iPod nano, although it also comes in a 16 GB model.
I thinks the 16 GB suitbable for a college student.
It depends on what you are doing. For homework like typing papers yes 16 gb is good.
If you're not going to store a lot of music or photos on the device, then 16GB should be sufficient. The device will have about 13.5GB actual usable space.
Have you considered a Netbook? It has many advantages and is much cheaper!
