After installing the HP printer driver using software update HP color laserjet 2550 has a problem when a print is sent. On the print queue shows a message 'waiting for printer to become availalbe'. The printer is plugged direct USB and could print the Test Page but doesn't print from any application. Please help to solve this problem. Thanks.
iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.2)
If you upgraded from an older version of mac OSX to Lion you may need to uninstall the software for the printer using the 'scrubber' method.
Go to Applications/Hewlett Packard/ click on HP Uninstaller
Click on Continue
Highlight your device on the left pane
Hold the Ctrl, Opt and Cmd keys and click on Uninstall <<<< Scrubber Option
There will be a pop up that asks if you are sure you want to uninstall ALL hp software. (At this point, if you continue, any HP printers you have installed will need to be reinstalled)
Click Continue and let it finish
Restart your Mac
Now, run a Software Update.
Finally, reset the printing system:
- Sys Prefs, Print & Fax
- Right (control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
- Select the plus sign to re-add it. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.

Thanks Lockwood. I bought this imac recently with Mac OS Lion from Apple and made a software update to install the HP printer so there isn't any previously installed printer. I don't know if your suggestion is still good to make a scrubber option, please confirm.

And there's no HP uninstaller in application folder. So how do I use the scrubber option if I want to?
Delete the /Library/Printers/hp folder.
Thanks John, I've deleted the hp folder and downloaded through software update. The problem is still there. The first print is ok but when you send the second print 'waiting for the printer to be available' message stays there forever. Any other suggestion? Thanks.
