USB3 Toshiba external HDD won't work with macbook pro

I am struggling with the same - however it is the v63700 drive - I am currently working w/ Apple under warrentee. Thei drive will mount with ANY other Mac. - it HAS mounted a couple of times. I formatted it Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and copied a bunch of files to it. Will Keep you posted.

See if it is recognized in Disk Utility. I suspect that it will have to be connected to an externally powered USB hub.

I have a Dell laptop (new) it wont read my Toshiba external hard drive either.

How did you solve your issue?

Okay - so I made the mistake of buying a heavily discounted Toshiba external HDD from Comet in their file sale:- which means that I can't take it back.

I couldn't get it work and found out I'm not the only one - which is really frustrating.

I did discover one thing though - if for some reason like me you're using an external plugin keyboard for your MBP then you can plug the HDD into this, and it will work.

I don't know why - I was under the impression that output power from an external keyboard was lower than from the USB socket on the MBP - but it does work.

I get it works by using micro usb cable or an usb2.0 extension.

Exactly! Wouldn't work plugged directly into my iMac but fired up off of powered hub??? Nothing like standards in a business model.

I just bought a Toshiba 1,5TB 2,5" external disk(USB3), and it was recognised immediately on my MBP. It is very low in power use, no powered connector necessary. I had to re format it to Mac OS extended (journalled), to be able to use it.

I was having this same problem with same drive on a 2012 Macbook Pro.

Somehow when I plugged it in through a USB HUB it WORKED! Maybe it regulates it somehow and it just works. No more strange blue light.
