And I have no idea why it seems to have worked for me. It doesn't really make any sense.

When I got home a little while ago I did have to shut down and then restart my iPad for it to connect. I'm done jumping through hoops and will patiently await a fix from Apple.

I am sharing a wired connection using both ethernet ports on my Mac Pro (1 in 1 out).  My problem is that my Mac pro loses connection but the laptop receiving the shared connection still has working Internet. This problem seems to occur after lots of iTunes sharing and other heavy data. A power down and power up usually solves it, restart usually doesn't. But none of this happened before 10.7.4. While we are talking about 10.7.4, almost all my frequently used apps hang. Never happened before... Apple please fix

Apple doesn't read much of the forum, so if you want to communicate with them you need to do it at http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html or call AppleCare.

I was finally able to reboot using the snow leopard CD, and then do a restore from time capsule.  For some reason, completely unknown to me, I am no longer dropping my Wi-Fi connection.  It has been three days now, and it has not dropped once since I restored.  Absolutely clueless why this would be the case since I restored from a time point when the system was having the problem.

After a couple hours of trying different combinations of things, I got my iMac to share it's ethernet connection via wifi to my iPod touch for only a couple seconds using encryption, but it seems to work indefinately without a password. I don't know that this is an option for me, as I am in an office environment.

I've always used my iMac for wifi to all my devices (iPad, iPod Touch, iPhone). It's painful that it stopped working.

Now that is interesting. Before this happened, my iMac (10.7.3) would occasionally fail to share the internet - probably on about 10% of startups. A restart would always fix it, and I never really bothered about it too much, just assumed it was a glitch of some sort since I could always gets it working within a minute. But since the 10.7.4 update killed it completely and forced me to revert to 10.7.3 from Time Machine, it hasn't done this once - in probably twenty or thirty startups.

So could it be something in the way the 10.7.4 updater replaces or moves files? I don't know enough about this to have any clue if this is right or not!

But it makes me wonder that if your system is broken under 10.7.4 and you don't have an older backup available, whether backing up *now* and then restoring from this (apparently faulty) backup might fix it?

Would like to add that I'm experiencing the issue on a mid-2011 27" iMac.

  • SkyRayTay Level 1 Level 1 (5 points)

Tried restoring from a current backup as JPHP suggests. It fixed the issue! For 30 minutes

Neither backing up from before the update nor having an unencrypted shared wifi are an option for me right now, and so I will cross my fingers that this issue is resolved in a timely manner.

Ok, I have been reading over these posts for a while now.  This is so frustrating that Apple is taking so long to fix this.  I have contacted them twice about internet sharing not working properly.

In the meantime, I have an extra notebook that I have converted as my hotspot.  I downloaded connectify for my temporary wi fi. I too have several items that I require wifi, ie; printer, ipod, wii, laptops, etc. My iMac supported all of them with no problem whatsoever BEFORE I downloaded this last upgrade. Now, nothing works.

    I also have a 2011 iMac.

What would happen if I loaded 10.7.3? Screw my whole computer up?

I've only skimmed back over the last 155 replies, but here's what I did to revert to 10.7.3 (I do not use Time Machine) from 10.7.4. I have a 21" 2011 iMac as well.

Boot from the restore drive and resinatll OS X. Doing so will not erase any user data or preferences or panes or any of that—it simply installs in place all of the core OS frameworks and software. So when you reboot after reinstalling, you will be back to 10.7.

From here download the 10.7.3 combo updater and install. I also had to reinstall the Messages (iMessage) beta. You may need to run Software Update to reinstall the latest iTunes, I don't remember if I did that or not. that's about it—back to normal internet sharing and Wi-Fi iPad backups. From here, just don't install the 10.7.4 update.

Hoping Apple nips this in the bud soon!

I cannot belive Apple is letting this nonsesne linger like this......truly dreadful of them. I have written here and elsewhere about this issue and the silence is deafening.

Apple obviously don't care. This problem won't affect the majority of mac users, so it's a low business priority for them.

This is how it works. Unless the majority of user demographic has the problem it won't be resolved until 10.7.5, or 10.8. They know that the people who use this functionality, ie people on this thread, are brand loyal, so they know it isn't going to affect business by not resolving.

I heard back from apple support here in Japan.

"Engineers are aware of the problem but the issue will not be resolved until the next software update."

I asked if that would be 10.7.5. He said he wasn't sure. He also offered to be in touch when this was available but I said "that's ok...that's what the system updater is for."

    Bummer.

That said, I have had luck connecting pretty regularly by turning off security and checking the three additional tabs in system preferences noted earlier in this thread. I don't particularly like giving free wifi to everyone in the neighborhood but that's how it is...

    Hello,

we have the same issue on two iMacs both are 10.7.4 and Mid 2011 Models (the newest is 6 Weeks old!!!). With other two iMacs 2010 Model it's working nice (one is 10.6.8 and the other is 10.7.4).

I've talked to the german Apple Support with a "senior" and we tried different settings over an hour. Then he called me back and gave me the link to this discussion. He confirmed that the issue is only in iMac and he talked about a fix that will be in 10.7.5 but he can't say when this update will be available. I will now reinstall one Mac and then make the updates to 10.7.3 and i hope that the sharing will work fine. I'll give an update after the reinstall..

btw: If you want to make a lion boot-dvd you just need the download image (maybe still in your downloads folder or in an old TM-Backup, if not got to "Mac App Store > ALT > purchased" and start download), make a right-mouse-klick on the "Install Mac OS X Lion.app" and go to "show content", now go to "contents > SharedSupport" and you'll find the "InstallESD.dmg". Copy this file on HD and then burn it to dvd with the Harddrive-Tool. That's it..

This issue can be also found in MBP. I mean, I can share internet, and devices connect, but then I can't access App store on my iPod, Facebook is also not working. And the same goes for Android devices that connect to my shared connection.

It's only a 10.7.4 issue, since I also installed 10.6.8 on another partition and it is working properly!
