I resolve the same problem with owewrite wi-fi kext from 10.7.3.

Full backup restore from TimeMachine  is not nessesary.

Just find and copy IO80211Family.kext  to previous destination (don"t forget about unload, rights and kextcache)

I confirm fully the simple method:

    1. I extracted
      /System/Library/Extensions/IO80211Family.kext
from the original disk image of the 10.7.3 , and put it here:
      ~/tmp/IO80211Family.kext_10.7.3
    2. I installed back on top of 10.7.4 without any modification of SMC, network configurations:
      cp -R -p ~/tmp/IO80211Family.kext_10.7.3 /System/Library/Extensions/IO80211Family.kext
    3. reboot

I does withstand 4 other Mac and 3 iPhone connected on many hours.

I did network testing with regular ping from a MBP connected through AirPort toward my iMac running 10.7.4 and InternetSharing.

The big lags to 10000 ms, and connection losses aren't there.

I did many reboot and the 10.7.4 with the 10.7.3 IO80211 kernel extension is still up and running.

If, without touching anything else, I reinstall back the 10.7.4 IO80211 kernel extension, within 2 minutes

    my wireless network collapses.

    Try updating to 10.8

the 10.8 update solved the issue for me..I am not happy to pay 20 bucks to get something back I had with 10. 7.3 but the issue is resolved.

Issue Resolved by updating to Mountain Lion

  • MindFad Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

Never mind, 10.8 has apparently not solved my issues (21" mid-'11 iMac). The intermittent failure of internet sharing still happens to the iPad. iTunes WiFi sync still is hit-or-miss—mostly miss. And hey, AirServer doesn't work anymore, so no more sending audio or video to the iMac. Neither does iTunes Home SHaring to the iPad. Nine months of flawless, didn't-have-to-ever-think-about-it functionality—and then 10.7.4 comes out. And then Mountain Lion.

Maybe this is Apple's ploy to get me to buy a new Airport Express and just stop thinking I can share a network from my iMac.

The upgrade to ML didn't work for me immediately. I did do two things, I think the second fixed it. First on my iMac, in Network preferences, I deleted the Airport from the list on the side. Then I reestablished a new Airport (click the + at the bottom of the list of connections in the left column). That didn't seem to work, but next I did Network diagnostics, and it totally restored my sharing my Internet Sharing and I was even able to set a password again.

I hope this explanation is coherent and helps you. If you have a mid-2011 iMac, it should fix the problem. Good luck.

So I upgraded to Mountain Lion and sure enough it didn't work.  So I reverted back to what I had working and figured I would need to just spend some time and research and figure it out.  I have been on this blog on and off since the upgrade 10.7.4 wrecked my wifi waiting for a fix or an upgrade.  I was sure Mountain Lion would fix it and then it didn't.  Very #$@%&#$@  but in knowing I needed to find the fix, this was my first solution and it worked on my very first try...Thanks Myra J

Thank you Apple it's working after upgrading to the Mountain Lion.

Am also getting discontinuous Connections sharing from Ethernet to WIFI both with 40 and 128 encryptions in 10.7.4 Supplemental update. Waiting for Apple 10.7.5 update. Hope Apple supports Snow Leopard Updates even tho Mountain Lion arrived.

Just to confirm that Mountain Lion 10.8.1 has fixed the problem completely on my mid-2011 iMac and does not appear to have caused any other ones. (Apart from the usual nonsense of removing my custom Login backgound, which you now need Loginox to fix.)

I held off going for 10.8 after the experience with 10.7.4 and reports of various problems, but now all appears to be OK.

Don't exactly know if I have the same problem - im not that great with computers... have been reading this thread for a few days now and im a little confused...

I bought a MacBookPro this year in May (OS 10.7.4). I am trying to connect to the internet using an ethernet cable. My ISP is with the PPoE method. I enter my details and it keeps on saying Network Connection Error. Why is this happening?!?! My friend who has an older mac (OS 10.6.8) can connect in my room straight away. My ISP is puzzled, as everyone else's internet has connected fine...

I have an appointment with a 'Genius' on Thursday - but if I can get this problem sorted sooner it would be great - I need the internet at home asap!!!

It might be an IPv6 issue. Try some of these...

Troubleshooting Wi-Fi issues in OS X Lion and Mac OS X v10.6

    IPv6 troubleshooting

    Select  ▹ System Preferences ▹ Network ▹ Airport ▹ Advanced ▹ TCP/IP ▹ Configure IPv6: Off.

Click "OK" and then the "Apply" buttons.

Thanks MadMacs0 but those didn't work either...

I don't understand why it has to be soo difficult - frustrated!!!

Do you know if 10.7.5 Solves also the issue?

    Thanks and best regards.

It doesn't appear fixed in 10.7.5, yet worked in a way earlier 10.7.x

It also does work in 10.8.2.
