I'm triying to activate a new iphone 4s and keeps telling me apple activation servers are down.

Are you trying to activate it using the same carrier SIM card that it originally came with? Or is it a factory unlocked iPhone?
it's a factory unlocked iphone.
do you think i need to go to the applestore?

Look in the hosts file on your computer (as you didn't say what kind of computer and OS you have I can't tell you where it is, but Google will help). if you see any lines that contain gs.apple.com delete them and your phone should be able to be activated.
Have you tried both ways of activation? On the phone and via iTunes?
Just to double check, make sure you are connected to a wifi network or 3G on the phone/computer is connected to internet (in case of activation via iTunes)
yes tried all of that. It's not my first iphone i know how this things works. I'm just triying to figureout if apple servers are really down or if this Iphone is deffective in any way.
I'm triying to ping gs.apple.com and looks like they are down. But may be not and they just block external pings.

ok, just solved it changing the sim card for an old one.
this is also happening to me, my iphone will not activate, i just had a curtesy call off them and they tell me the fault is on thier side, and to percivere till around 8pm, :-) will get bk with more info :-)
Very frustrating. Just bought new iPad and can't activate. Seems to be an issue in uk and us. Yet despite multiple comments on this forum, Apple haven't responded with any statement regarding when it might be functioning again. Been down in the uk all day.
Apple NEVER responds in this forum; it is a user to user forum. Have you checked your hosts file and deleted any lines containing gs.apple.com? Have you disabled your firewall and antivirus?
Just activating it from the iPad, not my mac. I'll call them tomorrow.
