Q: Using Time Capsule with Windows XP

Hi, I have just setup a TimeCapsule in my home, where I have Verizion FiOS with an Actiontec Wireless router.  I have set up ther Time Capsule in bridge mode.  Everything is working well.  I can connect to either the Verizon Router wireless network or the Time Capsule wireless network from my Windows laptop and from my Macbook Air and get to the Internet.

Problem: Airport Utility (Version 5.5.3) which I have installed in my Windows XP laptop cannot discover the Time Capsule. I get an error message: "Airport Utility was unable to find any Airport Wireless devices".  I would like to set up backup to Time Capsule from my Windows Laptop.

What am I doing wrong?

Thank for any help you can provide.

Click here, follow the instructions, and then either drag your files to it manually or use a product capable of backing up to network drives.

    Niel,

Thanks for your response.  As I mentioned in my original post, when I invoke Airport Utiliy from the Windows XP laptop, it is unable to discover the Time Capsule.  Therefore, I am unable to do any operations on it.  All menu items are greyed out, except for "File".  Do I need to download any other software besides Airport Utility?  The version of Airport Utility I have is 5.5.3

    Plug in via ethernet..

If you still cannot find the TC.. press and hold the reset for 10sec until the front led flashes rapidly.

The TC then has to show up.. but if not, you need to isolate the TC from the rest of the network.. so on the laptop is plugged into a LAN port.. and laptop has no other connection. .Make sure the laptop is set to auto IP and gets 10.0.1.x ip address.

Then you should be able to access the TC.

Give it short SMB names.. both TC and wireless. no spaces, pure alphanumeric.

You should probably also set fixed channels..

For disk access turn on guest account to read and write.. and set workgroup correctly in file sharing area.
