Q: Document transfer via Camera Connection Kit and USB drive (no PC/iTunes)?

Is it possible (likely in conjunction with another document reading/editing App) to move documents like .docx, .xlsx. and PDF from a USB thumb drive to an iPad2 using only the camera connection kit?

I understand that there are several apps that allow you to transfer documents through iTunes and can read/edit/annotate the files listed above on the iPad.  I also know that you can just drop files in cloud storage like Dropbox, etc. or email documents to yourself and then save from your iPad from there.

However, I am looking to transfer documents with sensitive data and personal information and I don't want a copy of them ever living on a server somewhere.  For security reasons, the only copy of these documents live on ONE USB drive and another as a backup.  I would like to be able to transfer these sensitive documents on the go without the use of iTunes/PC interface.

Is this possible?  If so, what apps can recognize and transfer .docx, .xlsx. and PDF files through the camera connection kit to move from USB drive to iPad2.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

Z

The camera connection kit only supports the copying of photos and videos to the Photos app on the iPad, it doesn't support other file types nor the copying of content off the iPad.

The closest you can come is the aforementioned dropbox or other internet transfer protocols, or the app Documents to Go has a wifi sync, that's outside of iTunes. Have the app, have the program on your desktop, have them on the same wifi and you can wirelessly sync documents without using iTunes.
