Mac App Store says "Unknown error."

The Mac App store is giving me an "unknown error" when I try to install a purchased app or but another app.

User uploaded file

I *think* this is a result of me running a chmod or chown recursively on the wrong directory. I've run the "Restore Disk Permissions" on my main partition and although that said it fixed some things, it didn't solve my App store problem.

What user, group, and permissions do I need to set and on what files and directories do I need to set them in order for this to work?

As a side-note, I'm logged into the app store with my only account. Choosing "Sign Out" from the "Store" menu does nothing. I upgraded to OS X 10.7.4 and rebooted today. I've deleted the App Store cache files and rebooted.

Thanks,
Joel

I tried following a lot of the advice out there in terms of deleting different plists etc. They did not work for me. I think what caused the problem for me is that I cloned a macbook air to an imac and the imac then inhereted a strange network configuration that was causing the error authenticating with the app store. In particular, ethernet was showing up as bluetooth pan.

What worked: deleting all the services from the network preferences pane, and readding ethernet. Apply. Then ethernet gets an IP address and all is good in the world. Then re-add other services as necessary.

Months later I still have this problem. I suspect, however, that I caused it by running a CHMOD command at the root level of my file system (/) with a -R (recursive) flag. I've fixed most of the damage and run the Apple fixes in the disk utility, but the problem continues. It's a bit of a frustrating issue, but for now I'm just not using the Mac App Store for anything.
