May 15, 2012 3:39 PM in response to otherspaceby Ron in Berkshire,★HelpfulHi Luca,
I like your idea, but this architecture will not work as there is would need to be a switch to manage the traffic between the three machines connected to the 10GbE card (Lion Server, Final Cut, and Mac). Although point-to-point links between machines is possible with slower versions of Ethernet, the new 10GbE standard only allows point-to-point links with switches in between.
This limitation puts 10GbE out of reach for many as the network adapter may only cost US$900, a 25-port switch can easily cost US$15,000. On the other hand, depending on the work profile for your business, a full return on investment could be achieved over the course of the year or even on a single project.
Kind regards,
Ron
P.S.: Although it's not in the standard, I would not be surprised if the industry drafts an updated standard for point-to-point operation for 10GbE in the future as this technology becomes more widespread. I welcome other thoughts from the community on this question.

May 17, 2012 4:57 PM in response to otherspaceby Ron in Berkshire,★HelpfulHi Luca,
Although a single point-to-point connection between two machines should be possible, to implement a SAN with more than 2 machines, you really need a fibre channel switch. See http://www.apple.com/xsan/whatisxsan.html
Please let me know how you proceed.
Kind regards,
Ron

Fantastic!
Many thanks!

May 18, 2012 12:59 PM in response to otherspaceby Blaidd Drwg,That's for point to point for an initiator directly connected to target, like a direct attached VTrak or Xserve RAID. You can't make one Mac a fibre channel target or use the fibre channel link for TCP/IP networking.

May 19, 2012 3:03 AM in response to Blaidd Drwgby otherspace,Ok, I think that I can use this card without switch
http://www.small-tree.com/Intel_Based_10_Gb_PCIe_Dual_Port_Copper_10_Gb_Et_p/pet g2-cat6.htm
The Vendor wrtite me:
"then you can just connect a CAT5e/CAT6 cable direct between this
card on one machine and another card on a different machine.
Your diagram shows that you would need a PETG2-CAT6 on
the server and one for each mac client.....so 3 cards in total."
