Need to delete all contacts from iPad to eliminate junk that came in from mail account.

Sync with iTunes. On the Info tab uncheck Sync Contacts. Then re-sync.
That will delete the contacts, but won't affect junk mail you may be receiving.
I would strongly recommend using 3rd party software. Searching for "delete contacts"in the AppStore threw up several options. I chose Easy Delete for a few pence/cents and it downloaded and worked a treat in 5 minutes, erasing 2000+ contacts which were inadvertently downloaded from a family member who shared had an email account on my iPad (no longer!). I did not want to risk plugging my iPad into my laptop for fear of corrupting any other Address Book so I wanted the contacts erased directly from my iPad. It was very easy. Good luck
I would just go through all of your contacts and press delete, unless you have like 15,000 contacts.
I mean I would just go through all of my contacts if they were mine! OOPS!
