Problems connecting to a non-ssl Basic Auth webdav server?

I am running a WebDAV server using basic authentication without SSL that is only available internally on a private network.

I am able to connect to this WebDAV server after fixing registry with Windows XP.

While on the private network I am able to browse this WebDAV server using Google Chrome / Safari.

But I am unable to mount this as a drive using Mac OS X Finder (%k Connect to Server) .

Is there a similar configuration change needed for Mac OS Lion to allow this unsafe configuration?

iMac G5, G4, and Intel Mac Book, Mac OS X (10.5.8)
