How to restart G5 iMac

I have had a G5 iMac for several years. It has OS10.5 installed and I had two exgrnal hard drives attached. Recently it began to slow down quite a lot and I have been trying to clean it up and get rid of files that weren't required.

Yesterday when I tried to start it up the spinning circle with the Apple logo in the background was replaced by a no entry sign.

In order to try and do a safe restart I have held down shift. I have held down C and I have even tried shift and C, but nothing is happening.

I can not lay my hand on the discs that would have come with the iMac.

Is there any other suggestions that anyone cam make whoch would help me restore it to its brilliant former self

Thanks

If you have a G5 iMac it's not an Intel based machine. In that case you should re-post in the PPC (Power PC) iMac forum. If you aren't sure if your machine is PPC or Intel click the Apple symbol in the upper left and click About this Mac. You can find the PPC iMac forums at:
