When updating iPad 3 to the 5.1.1 IOS, the download froze, and I reset the iPad and now it says to  to iTunes. Did I just delete everything???

Do you backup on a regular basis? If you have a backup, connect to iTunes, let the process work and then you should be able to restore from a backup and sync your content back from iTunes.

It's my husbands iPad, and no, he hasn't backed it up since he got it...

Well, if there is no backup, them maybe everything will be lost from the device.

Bottom line - you can't use the device for anything until he connects it to ITunes and he will probably have to restore it in order to get it working again anyway. See what happens when the device is connected.

You can download purchased content again for free - depending upon what is available in the country in which you live - as long as you use the same Apple ID. If you live in the U.S., virtually everything except for some movies, audio books and extra content in iTunes is available again as a free download.

If you don't live in the U.S. - you can see what content is available for free redownloads here.
