Which leads me back to ...and why I asked .... does it work? I admit that I have never heard of a bootleg iPad - ever. It doesn't mean that they are not out there - I just never heard of one.
Chances are the fake ones are sold mainly in China because Apple can't sell the real ones there. Although I suppose knockoffs could be elsewhere in Asia, it's highly unlikely any that are sold by approved retailers would be fake especially in the US and EU.
Then again maybe all the fake ones have "Fake" engraved in very small print on the back. Could be that's now a universal requirement.

I love the irony in that. And once again, I had no clue about that either.
Here is another dumb question - is it legal to sell bootlegs - if they are marked "Fake"?

For information on your iPad (model, date of production, etc) then enter your serial number at this site. Information, based on the serial number, will be shown. http://www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.html If the serial number matches the model number, it's not fake.

Does you iPad work?
They all have a grey back and black Apple logo. If it's fake then you may have bought it in China.
Why wouldn't a fake one work?

OK - you got me there. I must be so naive that I've never heard of a bootleg iPad.
If the OP didn't buy it in China - how will he know if it is fake or not?
Wouldn't have iOS on it.
If you can install System Status, it will give you plenty of info on what is inside e.g. CPU, GPU, Device ID, OS etc

OK, I looked it up in Wikipedia. A Fake iPad is one that looks like a Galaxy Tab and runs Android. Wikipedia wouldn't lie, would they?
If they are clearly marked as "Fake" then it's legal to sell them, but only to young gorillas and chimps.
š I give up!
i have a ipad that i received in the mail from winning a contest
it says the model number is a1416 but it also says MD333/lla which is not listed anywhere in your list
does this mean it is fake?
how would i no if my ipad is a fake
