C-Media USB Headset, not working all of a sudden

As the owner of the older Power PC based mac, I was forced to go out and buy a USB adapter ( http://tekgems.com/Products/et-14120-ada-he-280b.htm) to plug in my heaset's microphone. It worked fine in the beginning but all of a sudden (probably after downloading some OS updates from Apple) the speaker has just stopped letting any sound through even though the mic works perfectly.

I have checked the headset on other computers to see that its not a problem with the hardware. I also verified in the Audio MIDI Setup Utility to check if the right frequency (44K) was selected. I am now completely lost and have no way of proceeding because I just can't find a place on the internet that supplies a driver for the device for the Mac OS X. Please let me know how I could possibly get this to work.

Thanks for your help.

Sometimes it happens to me too... My advice: in Audio MIDI Setup Utility try checking and then unchecking the mute box in audio out section.
This should modify the core audio settings unfreezing the software and fixing your problem.
Hope this helps,
regards.
