how to change iCloud account on iPhone, without deleting data on iPhone

I recently changed the email address associated with my Apple ID. In my iPhone, I have iCloud set to back up my phone's documents and data, but it has stopped working because it's still set up with my old email address. I read that in order to change it to my new email address, I have to delete the old iCloud account (under iPhone settings) and sign in with my new email address. However, when I press 'delete account' it gives me the warning: "If you delete your account, all documents stored in iCloud will be deleted from this iPhone." This is something I do NOT want, as there are documents and app data on my phone that I don't want to lose. (Some people on the forums were saying it gave them the option to keep all their data on their phone after they pressed delete. Mine did not--it only gave me the warning and a chance to cancel, so I assume Apple changed it between now and late last year when those comments were posted.)

So...

- First off, why would they make it this way??

- And more importlantly, how can I get around this? I just want iCloud to back up my iPhone using my new email address, without erasing data from my phone.

Thanks!

Joe

My problem is a little different but kind of the same. When my daughter set up her iPhone she used her friends Apple ID. Now they are not friends (girl drama) and the ex friend has changed the password. She will not give the password to my daughter so she can reset her phone and put in her own Apple ID. Is there a way around this? Apple tech support couldn't help. Thanks.

I know this is an old post, but ive just created a username on this support site to post this. I have literally just deleted my icloud account because I had changed my email and password for the apple id, I can promise you my heart nearly sunk at the thought of loosing everything because it kept asking for a password for an apple id I dont use anymore. Anyway, all is fine. Swipe all the green buttons white in the icloud section it will ask on each to keep click that, then brave it and click delete icloud account. Then the set up page will come up like new, put in your current id and password and it will ask to merge. One by one the white buttons go green and give it some time depending on how much data you have stored and it will all be back there! Hope this helps anyone who reads this and was searching on loads of different sites to find out. 🙂

Had this problem for about a year on my $400 device after the update. The battery used to last over a week (seldom used) but INSTANTLY after the update, the battery is dead within a day (of NOT being used at all), so now it's this huge burden to keep plugged in CONSTATNTLY.

I have googled and searched for a solution to be able to use this junk I paid a fortune for to no avail. I have been searching for a year with no luck.

When I try to do this it says that it can't use the old email address that I am entering! It says that it is either already used or a few other different things but either way when I go to try and edit my current apple id by trying to change my new apple id email to my old apple id email like everyone is saying to do it won't except my old apple id email when I try to hit save... I have tried everything! I just updated my iphone 4 to ios 7 and just want to delete my old icloud account so that I can save my new icloud account but when I go to settings then icloud it brings up the old icloud account. When I hit delete account at the bottom it asks for the old icloud account password which I do not know. That email hasn't been used in forever so I don't know the password to even get into the email! So Im stuck! Without that old icloud account password it won't let me delete that old account so that I can save my NEW apple ID as my New icloud ID as well.. Please someone help me! Im ready to scream!!:)
