Cannot Open PDF in Safari

Can someone please help.

I cannot open PDF files through Safari. I've read some of the other comments on the same/similar issue and I have tried those steps and have been unsuccessful. I still cannot view PDF files through Safari, in fact, the Preview doesn't even open. When it worked the preview icon would pop up in the tool bar at the bottom of my Mac Book, but it no longer does that. Here is what I've tried;

Upgrading my Adobe, even though I know you don't need it for Mac.

Removed Adobe from applications and deleted.

Went to Library and internet plug ins and there is nothing in that folder.

Went to internet preferences and un clicked enable plug ins.

Not quite sure what else to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advanced.

Hi Roxana ..

Which Mac OS X do you have installed and which version of Safari ??

Upgrading my Adobe, even though I know you don't need it for Mac.

You do if you want to use Adobe Acrobat Reader to view PDF files.

Went to Library and internet plug ins and there is nothing in that folder.

There are two libraries. One is root /Library

The other denotes your Home folder ~/Library (the Tilde character represents your Home folder)

Go to /Library/Internet Plug-Ins

If you see the Adobe PDF browser plugin or just PDF Browser plugin, move that to the Trash. Quit then relaunch Safari. Try a PDF file.

Hi Carolyn,

Thank you responding, I've noticed you seem to be really good with this issue so I was hoping you'd reply : ).

I have Mac OS X 10.6.8

I have Safari 5.1.5

As for Adobe, thinking back on it I think I do need them to view certain files so I may in fact choose to go with that to view PDF.

I just found the Library that you mentioned, I removed the Adobe Files and sent them to trash and then emptied the trash. I just went to try and open at PDF online and I just get a gray empty window.

Thank You again in advanced.

Okay, I went to that link and reinstalled Adobe and I tried to open a PDF online and it did the same thing, the only difference is now the bar loads as if it's going to show me the PDF and then when it's done loading nothing shows up, still a blank gray window.

I'm not sure why it isn't working. It literally just stopped working one day. Could the flash be affecting it? I can remember around the time it stopped working updating my Flash.

Thanks

Same issue here. Running Safari 5.1.7 on a Macbook with OS 10.6.8. When the blank .pdf page comes up, I can control click on it and save the pdf to the desktop which can then be opened with Preview but nothing within the browser. Hi Linc Davis. When I pull down from Help, I show Adobe Acrobat NPAPI Plug in, Version 10.1.3, DivX Web Player, Flip4Mac, etc. The Adobe plug in is on my hard drive, library, internet plug ins folder.

With my Firefox browser, I don't have the issue.

Thanks for any assistance.

~M

UPDATED: Minutes later. yay!

I threw away the Adobe plug in from the plug ins folder, backed up the 200MB Adobe Reader from the Applications folder and then threw it away too.

Emptied my trash. Upon relaunching Safari, I went to a .pdf page and once again it is opening normal and showing me the pdf page in the browser.

Success!
