OSX Lion 10.7.4 breaks custom login screen!

Help! I recently updated my MB to OSX Lion 10.7.4. I had to re-apply my custom menu bar and icons (as usual), but the first thing i noticed was that the login window was back to that disgusting linen texture. I thought the update just replaced the file, (didn't happen before), so I went to /System/Library/Frameworks/Appkit.framework/Versions/C/Resources/NsTexturedFull ScreenBackgroundColor.png. And then the file was the same, my previous login window.

So the question is: Where is the new login screen texture stored? I can change the mission control background, but no amount of goolging or anything provides accurate and working information to replace the login screen on 10.7.4.

Why would Apple break this all of a sudden?

The worse case scenario would be that Apple decided to troll and draw the login screen programmatically. Which should never be the case...

are you kidding? A background graphic means that much to you?

If from the start that graphic could not be changed I don't think the OP would care as much. But since from the first release of Lion that graphic could easily be changed and now it can't causes one to wonder why Apple has gone this route. Why have they made that change? For what purpose has this change been made?

That is the real question.

I ignore me too threads. Many people want to bash Apple, and you can't tell a troll from a real sufferer. However, I did test on the same machine running 10.7.3 and 10.7.4, and have reproduced the problem. I suggest people post to http://www.apple.com/feedback/ or sign on http://developer.apple.com/ for a free account and post to http://bugreporter.apple.com/ what you did to reproduce the problem.

Add this to the long (and growing longer) list of stuff about Lion that just flat out disappoints. I've been a Mac guy since OS 9 and an OS X user since the beginning and this is the first release of OS X that has given me regret. My machine running Lion is less capable than it was with Snow Leopard and all I have to show for it is a splash of iOS paint in my OS X.

I just updated my machine to 10.7.4 this morning and have been trying like mad to figure out where the image I chose for my login screen went. I actually don't eveb hate the linen look--I think it was well executed--but at the same time, I don't want it on my login screen. I want choice.

Anyone else dreading what we're going to lose in Mountain Lion?
