iTunes won't play music

iTunes will not play music. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it yesterday and it worked without a problem. When I went to use it today, it did not play. This has been a problem for a while, although never caused to much of an issue.

I have today followed all the advice on this page:

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1362

but it did not appear to help, as drivers are up to date etc.

Any suggestions please?

I was running into this very issue (music videos and only the audio playing) and had run across this thread on the way to solving the problem ~ for me. The answer: AirPlay speakers were on. I feed my audio from iTunes to 3 AirPort Expresses and 2 Apple TVs via AirPlay. Somewhat annoyingly, iTunes won't play the video for the music videos while AirPlay speakers are on. Turn that off so the only 'speaker' is your Computer and... violà! Hopefully anyhow... Let us know if that helps...

I've had this same problem several times recently. Sometimes just restarting iTunes fixed it, but usually not. I use a USB audio interface and found today that if I switch from it to using the internal speakers via the Sounds Preferences panel the music would start playing again; switch back to USB and it stops. I unplugged my USB device and plugged it back in and now my music's playing fine. Hopefully this help somebody.

I have same problem,

Videos play sound fine, windows media plays sound fine.

iTunes music refuses to Play, it loads the track and sits at 0

You can move the slider into the track, but it wont play.

Tracks play in the itunes store

I have:

De authorised then authorised

Sign out and in

Turned off sharing turn sharing back on

Installed the latest Maya44 USB sound drivers

Re booted PC

All of the above at least x2 !

The Music tracks play fine in Windows media player.

I have tried everything in the link in the 1st post.

What else can i try.

I dont want to re install iTunes as i have over a terrabyte of music and videos all in Playlists.

All the misic and videos are stored on a remote NAS server ont he network.

Everything has been working fines for the past 5 years. Not today 😟

Possible solution!

I realize late to this thread, but I viewed several other threads with the same annoyance. Let me qualify by saying I am NOT an Apple Tech. I just walked a customer (on Windows with iTunes) thru troubleshooting his prob with no audio playing and found a solution.

Turns out you need to *tweak* your audio to a lower hz setting. I'm sure if you have Apple you'll know where to find the speaker icon. For you Windows PC'ers left click your icon located in lower right hand side of your task bar. Above your volume control bar, click the icon that looks like a speaker.

Go to the "Advanced" tab. Set it to a lower setting of 24 bit, 44100 hz (Studio Quality) Click test. You should hear sound. Then click "apply" then "ok". If your iTunes is open, close it then fire it back up. Try playing your song now....

Good luck everyone! From what I have viewed on these Community Threads, what is blaring and clear is there are no Apple techs or customer service appearing in these communities.

Shame on you Apple!

I had this problem for some time and finally fixed it. Thanks to Frozty2u for directing me to the speaker icon in the bottom right of my Windows 7 PC. I clicked on that, then clicked on mixer, while running itunes. An itunes icon then appeared, with a control slider that was set to nothing, or at the bottom. I dragged it up and lo and behold, i can now hear my music. Hope this helps,

Rob

Changing the audio quality to 44.1 didn't solve the problem for me — I still need to restart my audio interface now and then.

But in case it helps anyone else, the way to change the setting on Mac OS X is not in the sounds prefs panel but use the utility Audio MIDI Setup (found in Applications::Utilities). If the Audio settings aren't showing, select Window>Show Audio Window. Then select either "Built-in Output" or your audio device and select "44100.0 Hz" in the drop down. Keep an eye on that value; my audio interface automatically resets it to 48000 each time I boot up my iMac or restart the audio device.

Hello Rusty,

If your Audio is resetting itself it probably means you are not getting to the core of the setting then. The 44100 Hz setting is what I suggested, I found that seemed to "cure" the audio prob. Since I am not a Mac user I profess no suggestion, but I have walked a few of my PC customers thru this most annoying problem with iTunes playing properly.

You are both welcomed. ➕

I think iTunes support staff needs to get themselves helping out their customers *here*. Kinda funny a PC kinda girl here is giving support help to iTunes peeps eh?

I always go thru so many obstacles just to sign in to this bloody area that alone makes me never want to use their "service" again. Cranky systems I tell you....

Apple? Wise up.
