Don't know how the TimeMachine works don't have one that divice is a type of a nas why can't apple install itunes server with homesharing on it so we can stream from it and when you buy a movie music or anything from itues store it automaticly downloads the content direcly to the TimeMacine instead to computer with iTunes.

And also why can't apple make its own NAS. "Apple iNAS"

My point being that knowing Apple's pricing strategy, you'd probably get a Mac Mini for not far off the cost of an Apple designed iTunes server device, it's relatively low power, could run headless and perfrom a variety of other functions.

This is more a suggestion that I think one of the reasons they don't make one is that it would be darned expensive - if there was one it migt cost not far off that of the Mini.

A netbook with iTunes and some USB drives might be another option !

It's not meant as a serious suggestion, more of an observation.

A nettop is what you are really looking for. And that will be one of the atom based options. It wasn't that long ago when people were getting Leopard (10.5) up and running on a netbook, or nettop. For the most part, you are looking for a machine that can have it's PCIe wirless card swapped out for a native Broadcom card that's recognized as an "Airport" card under Leopard. Brands that allowed this were Samsung, MSI, and others.

MSI might be your best option here, or any other computer, like an older Mac Mini running a PowerPC chip. Leopard (10.5) did run on both Intel and PowerPC systems. So you can Google and hack it onto a MSI nettop (with a wireless card swap), or get an older Mac Mini running PowerPC. Load up iTunes and go.

And both of those options will handle external drives. Have a great weekend. Who know, Apple could announce something else under IOS 6 on June 11, 2012.

You are 100% correct. A Nettop would be your best bet now. You Just need iTunes running to serve the Apple TV. So you don't realy need OSX since it will run on windows. I'm using Windows Home Server 2011 with iTunes running 24/7 to serve my Apple TV 3. Any cheep Atom or E350 Board will work to build one. Synology or Qnap NAS Devices would be perfect for this if they Could serve to the Apple TV directly. But they Don't at this time.

Yes matt. But as the weeks go by things could change. Software evolves all the time, interfaces change and hopefully apple changes their mind on NAS solutions or someone (synology/qnap.etc..) gets a agreement about an app on ATV3.

Until that maybe far fetched day has come, i will keep this question unsolved.

And frankly just posting some solution or afirmation about an nettop or other pc/win/osx constalation makes me think you did'nt read the first effin post. And that makes your in other contex good advise seem kind of stupid.

Its like i asked.

Talk about different food, that DON'T include fruits.

And you say.

Hay, how bout pineapple-bananas smoothie and - uh i know, i know - grapes!

the only reason why he got a [this helped] was because i couldnt remove it again once marked.

Relax. I understand What You want. its the same thing I want. I was commenting back to schlitzz. I don't want you to close this thread. in fact I want quite the opposite. But if no one comments or clicks on it. this thread will either die or get buried so far back in google search that nobody sees it. Imagine If everyone who visited this page had posted. That said. I didn't buy a WD Media Player Or Roku etc. Thats not what I wanted. I purchased an Apple TV to use with all my other Apple hardware and found a cloogy way to use it. I don't know why you can't stream from a Time Capsule, Synology, Qnap etc. it would be great if you could but at least for now you can't.
