My ipad volume cuts in and out

I am thinking it is a glitch in the ipad itself, but any thoughts on sound/volume that comes and goes at will? speaker isn't blocked and wifi connect is strong. The song or song/video is clearly still playing, but the volume just cuts out and may return or may not, completely at random.
