Question - Making 50 CD copies to give away legally, paying for each use.

I would like to give away 50 CDs with a collection of songs at an event, legally, happy to pay for each use as if I was buying 50 separate CDs. But is there a straightforward way to do that on iTunes?

Phil,

If they are songs to which you own the rights, e.g. songs you personally composed and performed, then yes, you may use iTunes to burn as many copies as you wish. However, if you want nice professional sounding CDs with proper volume normalization, etc, then you may wish to seek out a better burning program.

If one or more of the songs are ones you obtained commercially, e.g. from a CD or from the iTunes Store, the files you have are for your own personal use, and you do not have the right to make copies for others. See details here: http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/us/terms.html#SERVICE

Making a mix CD for a friend or two would likely not bother anyone. 50 would.

To your question about the legal solution for gifting a set of songs to others, see here: Send Music, Videos, Audiobooks, and Apps as Gifts

But, instead of burning CDs (which not everybody apperciates nowadays), or gifting Store copies (which may break the bank), why not just post your custom mix legally on a site such as Mixcloud? Your friends will be able to listen to the songs on their computer or smartphone.
