Software Update errors

Ok. Once again, I go to download the updates. I restart and get the error that "cannot expand" because of possible corruption or something else. Why is this happening everytime there is a software update? I've deleted the pref file software.update and restarted and redownloaded, but on restart it will always give me an error. I really need this fixed.
