Q: Is mackeeper safe to use?

Probably can't get a word in with the drawn out posts here. I don't think it constitutes another conspiracy theory though.

I think it is wrong to denigrate a product based on either heresay or misinformation you wrote yourself. And I am not going away.

So every mac user is American and covered by US law?? I did not know this. I must inform my government of this revelation.

I'm just about bored of your stupidity now, but just to round things off:

1. Again, point to ONE untruth that I have written about MacKeeper.

2. Substantiate your claim earlier that ANYONE has followed my (or any other unintstall mackeeper guide) and crippled their system.

3. My blog is based in the US, Zeobit are based in the US and all the forums I mentioned in my previous post, including this one, are based in the US and thus, they are all subject to US law.

Short of you answering 1 or 2, I'm done with you. You're probably done with yourself. Never a worse case of tripe, double-meaning and outright disingenuous ******** have I seen on this forum than what you've posted in this thread. You should be ashamed of yourself.

To all those able persons "debating" etresoft. Do yourself a favor and let him have the last word. It more than anything else is what he wants. Through this thread and other's where this subject has come up he has lost all credibility and you need to trust that people reading this thread will clearly see that. It's a shame that a level 6 helper would destroy his credibility over an issue such as this.

Where did etresoft say that every mac user is American or that they are covered by US law.

This is what was actually stated in etresofts post: (my emphasis)

Having said that, MacKeeper is a total waste of money, and the time it takes to get rid of it.

I would certainly like this thread to be over as well. However, from one expat to another, I should try to do the right thing and clear this little bit up, even if it does result is more vile thrown in my direction.

There is a big difference between laws that you must comply with and rights you may enjoy.

As far as I am aware, you are a UK citizen living in Thailand with a blog in the US. That means you are subject to the laws of Thailand, the UK, the EU, and the United States. From the US point of view, you are a foreign national in a foreign country and you do not enjoy any of the rights possessed by US persons. While in Thailand, you have only the rights that the Kingdom of Thailand gives to those of your legal status (citizen, permanent resident, visitor, etc.). Ergo, the only freedom of speech you have is what is accorded to you under the laws of Thailand. Furthermore, you can always be sued in civil court in virtually any jurisdiction.

No, MacKeeper contains malware and macs don't need antivirus software like windows. I don't like the advertisment's that pop up on my screen about Mackeeper. 

I would avoid MacKeeper at all costs...I tried this on a brand new 2012 Mac Pro Quad Core...A completely new install of many programmes (Quark 9, Adobe Creative Suite 6 to name a few).

MacKeeper flashed up on my web browser and out of curiosity I clicked the mouse and started a FREE scan.

Immediately warning lights were showing on the MacKeeper page, saying that my Mac is in a CRITICAL STATE!!!!

I proceeded on to fix the problems and then another page flashed up and said that MacKeeper had fixed some of the problems, but if I wanted to fix the majority then I needed to pay a price of about £45 which had been reduced from £450......I declined as I originally tried the programme expecting it to be FREE...I opted to have my computer disassociated with MacKeeper and then the problems began....(WITHIN MINUTES).

All my newly loaded softward started to crash and then not open at all...my system software started to do strange things and I am now completely gutted that I even saw the bloody link....

I feel that my computer has now been invaded by some strange virus or malware or trojan attack and it is still playing up today.

I had to uninstall all my software and reinstall it all which took ages and am still having problems.

I am really thinking of erasing my hard drive and reinstalling everything which is going to take me time and then I will need to reload stuff that I don’t want to erase as they are documents that I need that I don’t know if they will be infected and then put straight back on the machine......

I have emailed the boss of MacKeeper, BUT no reply as yet.

APPLE should let people know when they purchase a MAC to AVOID this programme at all costs...

That sounds more like the old MacDefender. I suggest installing Mountain Lion. Its GateKeeper feature could have prevented this.

Although I'll admit to having the same thought, it's definitely not MacDefender if this behavior was observed on a 2012 Mac. MacDefender hasn't been seen in over a year. It's gone.

It’s MacKeeper as I said originally. I had turned off Gatekeeper as I was installing software that wouldn’t load with gatekeeper turned on.

My mac is running Mountain Lion as it is only a week old...

I seem to be getting less problems now. But still feel vulnerable with crashes...

Given the cloice between GateKeeper and MacKeeper, I would take GateKeeper in a hearth  beat.

I have turned GateKeeper on and it will be staying on from now on...

I have never had any problems like this before and have been using Macs since 1988.

I just had a moment of utter foolishness when I saw the Advert flash up and will never do anything like this again.

Hopefully I can get my mac back to normal soon.
