this is getting ridicules....this problem is due to the IOS 5.1 upgrade....there are several thousand folks that have this issue and as of now no soluion that I can find....

The answer to take it to the Apple store is a joke...or to see everyone pasting the link from the support site is also a joke...

They need to fess up to their error and get out a fix asap...

If anyone knows of a fix let this forum know.

I've the same problem no wifi and its greyed.

The device is IPHONE 4S, purchased in Feb 2012, upgraded to 5.1.1 in June 2012, and was working properly, till it can't connect to any wifi network. I restarted it then I found this problem.

I tried all kinds of reset (Network Settings, erase all content & settings, reset all settings), then restored to factory settings, and restored to older backup but the problem not solved.

I bought it from KSA (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia), now I'm in Egypt and there are no Apple offices here.

Any suggestion is highly appreciated.

Franzi86: This solution will sound ridiculous but it seems to work for me. I've been having this problem on and off for several months now.

If your iPhone 4S feels unusally hot it probably is. This happens when you use several different apps. All you have to do it put your phone is the freezer for about 5 minutes and the problem will solve itself. I've been keeping a journal for awhile now and and it really works.

Hope this helps.

It's a hardware fault, in new electricals they used non leaded solder. Non leaded solder is very hard and can crack, unlike leaded which is very flexible. If you experience the no wifi problem then your phone probably gets a little hotter than others when you use it. This constant heating is causing everything to expand and contract which the solder can't handle and eventually cracks.

By putting it in the freezer your causing everything to shrink back down and make the connection. It probably works but not for very long! I also don't recommend doing this as it will generate moister inside the phone and will not only cause corrosion inside, it will also trigger the internal sensor.

I do experience the no wifi problem, so I took my phone into apple, they said do you also make calls which don't go through most times and your apps crash? Which is a yes and he said its a hardware fault so we'll swap your phone over! I just have to take my photos off and get a new phone. My guess is the internal ariel is coming apart!

Before you try anything, just go see them, no harm will come of it and you won't destroy something which is very expensive by tring a quick fix!!

My friend was having the no connect to wifi issue on his old iPhone4, he tried everything and nothing worked. I did a search and found the 5 minutes in the freezer recommendation. I read it to him and we both bust out laughing.

I got a call from him that night, he said he put his phone in the Feezer rebooted it and wala. It worked. Go figure !

Thanks great find.
