Apple TV is Downloading movie rentals very slowly

I rented Mission Impossible tonight, but Apple TV said it would be ready in 52 hours and 10 minutes. I checked my connection, and it's all good, I did a speed test and got 22Mbps download speed, so I can't figure out what the problem is.

I have been having more and more issues with my Apple TV lately. Rentals are taking longer, or the movies play to a certain point and then we have to wait for the streaming to catch up to a point and then the movie will start again.

Has anyone else experienced any problems like this, and have you found a solution? It makes for a very frustrating user experience, and everytime it happens I get a bit more turned off by the Apple TV product.

I now find that if I want to watch a movie, I'll purchase it then go and do something else for a while to allow it to download. Then when I come back to it, it's usually watchable without stalling halfway through. But, if some one else uses the ATV while it's downloading, all the data can be dumped from the ATV and you risk having to start all over again.

This is defiantly a server issue, but I'm such an apple enthusiast, I'm prepared to wait until Apple addresses the issue no matter how long it takes.

At the end of the day, there'll always be bugs in popular products.

I'm located in Denmark and have experienced itunes rentals being almost unusable, since a couple of months ago. I have always been using googles DNS, and today I switched to the unblock-us DNS. I seems to have helped a bit, but not at all removed the problem.

I am on a 50 MB line, everything is fast - Except my AppleTV 2 :-(

The most annoying this is tha tthree months ago, everything worked just fine. What happened ?

A change with the itunes servers

An apple firmware upgrade ? (I'm on 5.0.2)

I found this older article:

I guess both google and unblock-us DNS servers are located "away from home"

I would ike to change back to my isp's DNS and see if that solves anything...

Hello all

I have 30mbps down and 7 Mbps up. Road Runner Extreme. Have had tech to the house, retired entire hse. Rebuilt all line from hse to pole. Tested server and ping. Many many speed test. Great Internet . Every aspect of my service is awesome except. 3 rd gen Apple Tv. 11:23 hd video I recorded on YouTube private server starts and stop and took almost 26 min to play. Say what you want but believe me when I tell you they don't lie me at road runner because I demand the very best in a service I pay them for. It is Appe Tv.........Perod!! And they need to address this problem ASAP. All other services in my home un fantastic. Except streaming Hd video via Apple Tv.

Have a nice day.

I'm in Oregon. 20Mbps. Internet connection is great. About 6 weeks ago the Apple TV would download HD movies immediately with only 4Mbps... Now the internet is MUCH faster and I'm getting 3+ hour wait times.

Makes the device worthless.

I have literally tried everything... EVERYTHING.. Including purchasing new "everything" and returning it after discovering it didn't fix the issues.

I'm in Costa Rica with a 3 Mbps download bandwidth. As other useres wrote before, Netflix is also able to stream even in HD with no troubles at all. I'm trying to download a movie rental too (The Green Mile) and have been attempting to do so for almost a week now... It was ready to view last night at midnight, now when I have the time to watch it it's downloading again from the begining. I'm an apple fan too, but I'm much more a fan of getting a nice value in return for our hard earn money and this service isn't doing that.

My best regards to all.

Well, I found something interesting... I had my airport express stacked on top of my apple tv (they are the same size after all).... I found that sitting like this, the apple tv would refuse to connect to the wireless N 5ghz network. Tested this by creating a unique name for the 5ghz network. It would see it, but not connect, so obviously was choosing the 2.4ghz network in auto mode... Reason I needed it on 5ghz, was too many G devices on my 2.4ghz, slowing it down..

Spent many hours with tech support before finding this on my own... I instead stacked the apple tv on top of my airport, and now works flawlessly; Home sharing anyways.... still having issues with itunes store, although it's a touch bit quicker now. Must be something with position of the antennae\wavelegth etc. I'm not sure, but just an FYI in case anyone else has this particular setup.

So this is my second post on this topic. I must say tha I am saddin that a rep from Apple has not responded to this thread. Let all the loyal Apple family who spend thousands on Apple products know what's going on. Maybe just to post " yes we know and are working to correct the problem. " In this economy today when times are tough and money is tight, loyals are still coming up to bat to make Apple the largest company in the world and they don't have the common decency to let us know that they have a bad product and correct it. I was thinking about iPhone 5 after buying every iPhone ever made. And all three iPads and 3 generation Of Apple tv. But now due to lack of respect for all of you, and myself I must rethink my gadget life style. Oh did I mention that I also own airport Extreame, express and 27" iMac mountain lion. It's a sad sad day. Jose Duddy

Hi there

I have been following those postings for a while now , still hoping something

usefull is going to come out of it....

and nothing but hoplessness seems to surround this failed appleTV purchase !!

so if apple support can not answer or help ( I guess they are aware of how widespread this is )

how can we get any feedback from THEM ??

say, can I get my money back ? or do we better wait in case the Fix is on it's way ..

😉

what do you all say
