I tried burning a DVD in iDVD and it's turned slow. I've burned this DVD before and it only takes 35-40 minutes to burn (one step from movie option). It's only 500mb. When I went to burn it this time it says it's going to take over 5 hours.

How much free space do you have on your boot drive and what type of disk are you burning to?

Try this workflow:

Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.

To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it. If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.

Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality. Always use top quality media: Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

Then you check the disk image before burning it to disk.

Have you rebooted your Mac recently? If not do so and then try creating a disk image. Often it starts out with a long estimate but drops down quickly. Once you create the disk image you'll never have to re-encode the project again.

But next time - You can also do - If You get a working DVD - first time.

Use Disk Util tool - to make a copy of it - Musch faster.

THEN - REMEMBER to not BURN more than three at a time and let the DVD-laser-burner cool down for 20-30 minutes till next batch. IT is very easy to over-heat the laser ====> Expencive Repair ! !

I do also

• use Verbatim DVDs (only as they work so much better for me)

• DVD-R - as they also play on older DVD-Players

• Set down burn speed to x2 =====> Less Burn Errors ==> Plays so much better

• Secure a minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-up hard disk - to make iDVD and Mac OS to run OK (IMPORTANT)
