I just purchased the USB Power Adapter to charge my iPod Shuffle when I am not near my computer. I noticed that when I plug the iPod Shuffle into the USB Power Adapter, I get a green blinking light for approximately 5 seconds. Then, it disappears. I kept the iPod connected for 2 hours, but when I removed it and checked the charge, the battery status button still shows an oraange light. It didn't charge.

How do I get the iPod Shuffle to charge? I have already downloaded and upgraded to the latest firmware.

2 GHz 20 inch iMac, Mac OS X (10.4.5), 2 GB RAM

Usually the iPod shuffle will charge from an external power source.
Are you able to listen to the songs from it? Does the iPod shuffle get recognized when connected to the computer?

If the answers are "No" to the above questions then send the iPod shuffle for service at http://depot.info.apple.com/ipodshuffle/

Chris I was experiencing the same thing with my Shuffle and A/C adapter. The A/C adapter was not firmly seated into the wall outlet in my case.

After adjusting the A/C adapter, I now get the constant indicator light and a full charge. Hope your issue is resolved as easily as mine.

Thanks for replying. I apologize for not responding sooner.

The iPod Shuffle functions perfectly. It plays music and I can charge when I connect it to my USB hub.

I purchased the USB Power Adapter because there are times when I am not near my iMac and the iPod Shuffle needs to be charged.

The only way I get my USB Power Adapter to work with my Shuffle is to turn OFF the Shuffle. If it's not OFF the Status Light blinks amber as though the Shuffle had been set up as a data storage device. With the Shuffle OFF, however, after about 30 seconds, both the Status Light and the Battery Light illuminate yellow and then green when the Shuffle is fully charged.

Thanks for replying. The iPod Shuffle is off when I try to charge it. I get the solid green light for about 5 seconds and then it's gone. I have left it on the USB Power Adapter for hours. When I take it off and try to fire the iPod Shuffle up. I get an amber battery indicator light.

Thanks a lot. I'll definitely check to make sure the USB Power Adapter is plugged in properly. I never thought of that.

I have the same problem with the USB Poer Adapter. I have 2 shuffles, one charges fine with the USB Power Adapter and the other the other doesn't but it does charge from the computer. I have tried resetting the shuffle but not luck. I don't understand how this could be.

Is anybody still monitoring this? I'm having the same problem. Apple store said buy the USB power adapter to charge Shuffle. When I plug the Shuffle in, the green light comes on for a few seconds, then no amber light to indicate charging. I left it plugged in overnight, and it was not charged. The adapter works with my other iPods and a USB cable. The Shuffle charges, and the amber charging indicator light works, when connected to a USB port on the computer. On one of the other threads, I saw discussion about updating the firmware. I have run Updater, and the Shuffle has current software. What gives?
