None of my iDevices can read my iTunes library after an hour of availibility. When I first start iTunes I can read the library, but after about 30 minutes my iPad's and iPhones can no longer access the library. I see it in the shared list, but no access. more

Jun 18, 2012 7:38 PM in response to aut0maticdanby Stephen Connor,I only switched the AppleTV to WiFi, I still connect my computer to the network via Ethernet (with no WiFi connection from the computer). I'm still having no problems, but conceed it may all be coincidence.

Jun 19, 2012 11:53 AM in response to Stephen Connorby SilverSevens,I have two networks going. One at home, and one at work. Both using ATV3's wired in. The home system continues to give me issues, but the work setup has no problems. So I don't know if having them wired in is the issue, but it may be a way to avoid it.

Jun 20, 2012 11:57 AM in response to aut0maticdanby Davids8477,I'm using your script to keep home sharing alive. It seems that it requires 2 starts to get it running again.
See the following
iTunes restarted
Wed Jun 20 08:00:36 -0400 2012 :: Number of HS connections: 0 (CLOSE_WAIT: 0)
Wed Jun 20 14:16:13 -0400 2012 :: Number of HS connections: 107 (CLOSE_WAIT: 5)
Home sharing is broken. I am going to restart iTunes.

Is this what you expect?

Jun 27, 2012 5:00 AM in response to SilverSevensby Stephen Connor,No problems at all, since I pulled that wire! If I wanted to be scientific about it I should really go back to Ethernet and see if the problem recurs. But I can't be bothered, and why risk it hen things are going well?
-
Jun 27, 2012 6:13 AM in response to Stephen Connorby aut0maticdan,I've been scientific about it and it definitely does the trick! I've been running for the last three days without it going above 3 connections. My script has been running the whole time.
You only need to pull the wire on the appletv. The network speed difference isn't nearly as drastic as I thought it would be. The ethernet port on the appletv is only 100mb/s while the wireless is 65mb/s (assuming good signal). Its too bad they don't utilize the full performance of 802.11n or it would actually be an improvement to use wifi.

Jun 27, 2012 7:04 PM in response to aut0maticdanby SilverSevens,So you guys are pretty confident about the wire being the issue?? I got three to pull.
-
Jun 28, 2012 8:26 PM in response to SilverSevensby aut0maticdan,There is still a bug. Its not really the wire's fault.
It does seem to resolve the problem though. Mine is rock-solid running off wifi.

Jun 29, 2012 6:03 PM in response to SilverSevensby SimonAshmore,Just another tick for the wireless route. My itunes/atv/home sharing stopped working approx 4 weeks ago.
after much reading here my Netstat was showing up the same 150+ connections to each of my wired atv's
moving to wireless has fixed this issue.
As an aside netstat is showing 400+ https connections to my NAS box where iTunes media files are kept. This does not seem to be having any adverse effect though, restarting itunes does nothign to solve that lot...
lots of these....
tcp4 0 0 192.168.3.20.62644 192.168.3.5.https ESTABLISHED
tcp4 0 0 192.168.3.20.62643 192.168.3.5.https CLOSE_WAIT
It will be nice when this issue is fixed.

Jun 29, 2012 7:28 PM in response to SimonAshmoreby SilverSevens,Well, looks like I need to switch to wireless ATV's. Seems like the consensus is in that direction.

Jul 2, 2012 4:39 PM in response to SilverSevensby SilverSevens,Silence on the thread. This mean everybody's in agreement on the temporary fix??
-
Jul 2, 2012 4:45 PM in response to SilverSevensby Stephen Connor,Still working fine on both my AppleTV's, so yes the fix is working for me.
-
Jul 2, 2012 5:20 PM in response to SilverSevensby aut0maticdan,still going strong. though, over wifi, I've had a few dumps mid-video. Nothing major but it does occur occasionally.

Jul 11, 2012 11:58 AM in response to aut0maticdanby SilverSevens,Still haven't moved to wireless Apple TV. Just not ready
-
Jul 11, 2012 8:02 PM in response to SilverSevensby cendrizzi,I haven't either. And still have the problem.
Thought it would be useful to mention that you shouldn't expect mountain lion to fix it either. I have the developer account and it does nothing for this issue.
