Q: None of my iDevices can read my iTunes library after an hour of availibility. When I first start iTunes I can read the library, but after about 30 minutes my iPad's and iPhones can no longer access the library. I see it in the shared list, but no access.

None of my iDevices can read my iTunes library after about 30 minutes. My iDevices lose connection to my library and  I have to do one of the three following things in iTunes to regain connectivity: 1. Restart iTunes 2: Stop / Start Home Services 3: Start playing a song.

I'ts as if iTunes goes into a background or sleep mode. During the loss of connectivity my iDevices show that there's a library shared, but I cannot connect to it.

For the first time. This morning I had an interruption after 20 minutes of streaming audio.

I just closed the app on my phone, reopened it and got right back in. didn't have to go through restarting iTunes again like i used to.

Went to my Power config and lo-n-behold my disk drives were set for 20 minutes idle.

I've adjusted that to 60 minutes. Will work it again tonight. We'll see.

    Other than that, FLAWLESS!!

Davids8477: Glad things have improved. Leaving it unused overnight and getting right back in in the morning will be the 2nd true test. for me that  was about a 5 hour break between stream requests.

Not really improved as I could always stream a movie without issues.  Just giving it a longer test.

    9 hours so far

OK 10+ hours and the stream collapsed.  Cannot get any computer nor ATV to load the shared library.

I went to close the Matser Itunes and it warned me that 2 users were connected and sharing the library - or even though it would not stream nor load a library on the ATV or laptop it "knew" that they were connected.

As usual a restart of the mater itunes solved the issue.

Are you listening Apple?  I have sent a bug report but their silence is deafening.

Yeah, that bites. Apple has some of the easiest stuff to configure, and one of the smoothest OS's on the planet. But the customer service is just he opposite. Maybe we need to figure out a way to get this issue in the news. Or at least on some major Blog.

In fact I've found their support on most issues to be pretty good - not so in this case though.

Not sure about getting it in the news - if this forum (their support form) is not a good place then one wonders what would be.

So finaly digged a bit more how to really disable IPv6 on Windows XP 32 bit running on top of a VMware ESXi hypervisor. Doesn't look VMWare is causing issue. I had no IPv6 under network properties in Windows, but i still typed the following command under DOS prompt to completely uninstall IPv6 on the OS:

    netsh int ipv6 uninstall

Started iTune 14 hours ago after using this command + OS restart and this morning iTune responded quickly even after 14 hours of idling !!! First time since a couple of month that iTune respond in the morning.

I have this problem, and here is my setup.

When I try to access the library with either of my 2 Apple TVs, or the 2 iPhones in the house, or or iPad, it can see the computer but cannot access the library (Apple TVs just have the spinner). if I restart iTunes or turn Home Sharing off then on again, it works fine for everything. If the library is not accessed again for a while (not sure how long) then problem reoccurs.

My iTunes library is running on a Mac Mini which has no power management turned on; it never sleeps nor do the hard disks. All hardware is wired, no wireless involved. IPv6 is turned off on the Mac Mini. This problem has only been occurring in the last month or so, with no change in hardware.

    Daniel,

Add one iPad and a drobo my library resides on and you have described my setup exactly.

As for the tech support this is clearly more than they can handle. This is a huge bug and one of those instances where apples tight lipped culture is a pain to deal with.

I haven't seen it on any Apple Bloggers site. Somehow it needs to get out there and spread. It's bad news that needs to travel fast!!

Trying something new. Music running constantly in the background. Seems to be working. Takes only a drip of power for a single song to stream.
