Q: My computer's screen will not turn on though the computer will?

I hear the computer physically turn on, but a blank screen remains. I recently purchased a new battery for the computer for the battery status read replace soon about a week ago. I sense that maybe there is a shortage in the wiring that connects what shows on the screen to the computer, but I'm not completely sure. Has anyone else ever had this problem?

    Hi m,

    Which MBP do you have?

I have a 17" MacBook Pro that I bought back in the summer of 2008.

You may have the NVIDIA issue. Depending on the exact MBP you have, it may have the 8600 GPU. Bring the MBP to an Apple Store or AASP for free testing. If Apple's free test confirms the issue, repair is free. Read all about it here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377

There have been stories of, ummm, "uninformed" workers, so print out the article, familiarize yourself with it, and if you meet resistance, politely/firmly stand your ground and ask for someone higher up the food chain if need be. The GPU is part of the logic board, so "repairing" it means replacing the logic board (Some workers have tried to play word games, saying the logic board needed to be replaced so it wasn't a covered repair because it wasn't just the GPU. Grrrrrr!). Good luck!

    Thank you, tjk.

This reply was the case, but unfortunately, the repair didn't solve my computer troubles. I had to get a new computer, but thank you again for your help!

You're welcome. I'm sorry it didn't resolve all the problems though. Have fun with the new one anyway.
