May 9, 2013 9:55 AM in response to Dan8954by cheryl12,OMG. Your post worked for me. I was just on the phone with the Apple care folks. They couldnt help me. I was about to schedule an appointment to hoist my apple imac down to the nearest apple store. Then I tried your suggestion. It didnt work at first. i had the apple guy on the phone. He had to tell me where to find the apple utility screen (go to applications, click into utilities, then click into terminal...then type in drutil eject anywhere then click enter). But, it didnt work for me at first. The apple guy hung up. I tried it again (that made the fith time), and it worked. Thank you!
While waiting for responses to my problem I came across a solution in another discussion. The instructions were to open the Terminal app and type in the characters: drutil eject. I did this, the drive made a click and is now working fine.

Jun 4, 2013 2:11 PM in response to Dan8954by Jossi,So.....Here's what I did and problem solved:
Place the DVD/CD into the slot drive to the point where the resistance is felt. Next, take your open hand, and gently tap the outer edge of the disc inward towards the opening with your four fingers. Continue tapping the disc (like you are trying to tap the disc into the drive) and gradually increase the force of the tap until, bingo, the disc ***** into the drive!!!

Sep 16, 2013 4:00 PM in response to Dan8954by nfuria,I tried the drutil eject but it doesn't work.
So I read the man pages for the command (type man drutil in a terminal window) and could see the other options of the drutil command.
One of these is drutil list that list all burning devices connected to the computer (I think it forces a scan of the devices).
I used this and the drive come to life.

Sep 24, 2013 2:02 PM in response to Jossiby snestle,Jossi's advise helped in my situation. Tried the "drutil eject" commands with no success. Put a disc in the drive and applied firm pressure accross the entire disc until I felt it slip past the pressure plate of the drive carriage, at which point the eject mechanism was released to fall back in place, and the disc was accepted again.

Oct 16, 2013 10:15 AM in response to Dan8954by mtguidos,Where in the terminal do you type those words? I cannot load a disk because there is something in the way. I had JUST loaded 4 disks before this. In the iTunes bar at the top of the screen, in control, it says to eject disk, yet there isn't one in the machine. I am assuming it thinks there is.....???? I am not computer saavy, yet I follow instructions well
