Sync session failed to start

Lately I have been having problems syncing my iPhone with iTunes. The most recent error is "Sync Session Failed to Start". However, even before when I could sync, it wasn't fully syncing. For example, as I listen to music on my iPhone, I will give it a star rating, but that data won't transfer to iTunes. Additionally, the "plays" and "Skips" stats are not transferring either.

Can anyone help?

This "failed to start" just happened with me after syncing with no problem for some time. The only change I am aware of is I installed the new OS X Mavericks. Could that be a factor? I can backup my phone to iTunes with no problem but cannot sync.

I tried changing some of the iTunes settings. I tried rebooting the phone. I tried turning "Find My Phone" off and on as someone suggested above.

Any ideas?

I had the same problem with my Ipod touch 5th gen. Deleted all the data on the PC and reset sync history, but that still did not work. In the end I resetted my Ipod. It is under Settings-General-Reset and selected Reset all settings.

This worked for me.

However, note that you will lose all your Wifi connection settings, background and other settings, including local access for apps to photos and such. But redoing this is easy afterwards as the apps will just ask you to grant access when you start them up again.

Best of luck.

Just updated an iPhone 4s to latest iOS with the intention of using it in the car.

On a brand new iMAc with Mavericks, got the dreaded "Sync session failed to start" message.

Soft reset didn't work, restarting iTunes didn't work but the tip advising restarting the MAc with the iPhone connected did.

Now happily syncing....phew.
