Question

Powerbook 3400 CD-ROM drive

I have just bought a PowerBook 3400c from ebay, which comes with a CD drive.

The person who was bidding against me wanted the laptop just for it's CD drive.

So, he offered to buy the CD drive off me for £15. (I got the laptop for £20).

Is it possible to get these CD rom drives quite cheap, or possibly an external one?

I could really do with the money as The total price is £35 and that is a bit much. Would a normal SCSI CD drive work with a 50pin to Powerbook SCSI adaptor?

Stephen,

Hang on to the internal CD-ROM drive...it is far superior to a SCSI CD-ROM drive for ease of use, portability, and compatibility. Unless you get hold of a slow, old, Apple-branded SCSI CD-ROM drive, you will not be able to boot CDs from the drive, and this is critical for HD repairs and installing software.

How much are these CD drives worth?

They don't appear on ebay very often and are very expensive from the retail stores.

i have a internal 12x cdrom drive and a floppy disk drive from my dead pb5300. How i can do for my cdrom or floppy drive works out(but plugged)from my PB(i need work with both drives)?

Arturo,

You can use the floppy drive from the 5300 in your 3400 but not the CD-ROM drive.
