Q: MacBook running extremely slow..why?

You need to remove MacKeeper. It will only cause problems on your Mac.

Which Mac OS X you have installed has no bearing on the drive slowing down.

And check to see how much free space there is on the startup disk.

Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there's a minimum of 15% free disk space.

Hi..

Anti virus software will only slow the drive down more and third party so called cleaning utiliies aren't necessary on a Mac.

See how your Mac runs after uninstalling MacKeeper.

And it may be a good idea to check the startup disk in case it needs repairing.

Launch Disk Utility. That's located in  /Applications/Utilities

Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.

Click: Verify Disk  (not Verify Disk Permisisons)

If the disk needs repairing, follow the instructions for > Using Disk Utility to verify or repair disks

I dont know but mines dying. I have a duo core MacBook 2gb ram and it has 67gb of 120gb left of space. I have snow leopard on it and it's up to date... One day it wouldn't let me log in so I reformatted it without time machine... If I open up app folder or mail. It would be super slow and freeze up with the spinning color wheel. It's like a 5min wait per click. *** is going on?!

Phil, start a new thread. This one's already been marked as 'solved' so you won't get a lot of responses. You also need to outline the specific details of your machine and when/how the problem first started as best you can.

Hopefully someone will be able to help you determine whether its a software or hardware problem and what you need to do to resolve it.
