Yes, simply drag any photos you want to add to photo stream onto the photo listing on the left-hand side of iPhoto. Alternatively select any photos you wish to add and click the share option in the bottom right hand corner and then choose photo stream from the list of options.

would it only sync the photos? does it mean i will have to build the events and the albums for each computer?

Photo stream is simply one big folder of photos, you cannot have sub-directories within it.
If you wish to sync the albums and events from your computer to your iOS device, then you are best using iTunes and selecting the events and albums from the photo tab when your device is connected to iTunes.

so it seems like that is no way to sync albums between 2 imacs....
i am asking because i am a designer and visual references are very important to me. i have over 20000 pictures sorted out in my home imac with 63 (sub-directories) albums and even more folders so i can find them easily. i dont think i can do it all over again for my office imac and my macbook air. ayia, icloud!
