Crossfade not working-at all.

I am working the Logic pro 7 tutorial from Martin Sitter's book because I am new to Logic. It tells me to click the audio cross fade tool and then drag it halfaway accross a particular region and I do that. I doesn't make anything-no fade appears. I am zoomed in well enough (looks just like the book's picture) and the audio cross fade tools is definately selected. I closed and opened the software again but it won't make a fade in either direction. Maybe I am confused on the true method here but the click n' drag isn't working. Any ideas?

Thanks to everyone who wrote in. I have to say that Martin Sitters Logic 7 and Logic Express basic book is a pretty good start- but I have seen some funny little errors. This error, cost me a little time though. I was using the books given logico tutorial files and and I was to fade-in, fade out and crossfade on a track that was labeled bongo- but it wasn't a pcm file after all! The illustrations in the book show the fade working for Mr. Sitter on the "bongo" track of course, which kept me going on my impossible quest. After reading your voices of reason, I recorded a small audio file and then tried the drag the crossfade tool as I had assumed it would work. Surprise of surprises- it worked! I appreciate all of your help. Now I can trudge through the rest of his tutorials (until the next error?) and become a basic logic user.
