4.54 GB For 6 minute video?

Hello,

I just completed a ~6 minute video in which we utilized green screen for the interview and put a gradient background behind the subject.

I'm working on the latest mac mini with 8 GB ram. I have Final Cut Pro X all up to date. everything is up t o date as far as OSX and all software goes.

I'm just curious. Is 4.5 GB a reasonable size for a 6 minute video that uses a lot of green screen? this is my first time really doing green screen work.

thanks for any responses!

You must be using ProRes 422 to edit. Exact size will depend up a few things, ProRess 422 or 422HQ, 1080p or 720p. Frame rate 24p 30p or 60p.

If you are using ProRes then yes it sounds about right.

(When you use 1080p60 you will get huge ProRes files and your computer will slow to a craws even using prores 422. Very processor heavy on my little mac mini and makes me wonder if 60p really is worth shooting in.)

What was the footage shot on (what type of camera) and what medium will it end up on?

If you're doing green screen it's recommend that you transcode to ProRes 422, no need really for HQ or 4444 as these ProRes formats are way overkill for anything but shooting with a $10k + camera.

Ingest your footage and make sure you've selected the Transcode options, then edit and once you're happy export it to you the desired format. H.264 is the best quality for the smallest file size.
