Q: XSAN MDC mirror -drive failure
Hi,
I had one of the MDC mirrored drives fail on my Promise VTRAK. While the mirror was rebuilding the Xsan went nuts failing over from one MDC to the other.
I finally dismounted the volume and stopped the Xsan until the rebuild completed.... afterwards I ran into some corrupted files. I then ran the cvfsk following Apple instructions below.
Now my Atempo backup software is flaging IO disk read errors on about 1000 files. I spot checked the files and they appear to be OK... open and play just fine.
I was wondering has anyone else had these problems when one of the mirrored drives on an XSan fails and rebuilds to a new drive? Is there a proceedure I need to follow when this happens?
I would be grateful for any input.
Thanks,
Ray
For Xsan 1.3 or later
- Use Xsan Admin to unmount the volume from the Metadata Controllers and from the Xsan client units.
- In Xsan Admin, stop the Xsan volume.
- On a Metadata Controller, open Terminal.
- Execute the following commands one at a time, and authenticate when prompted:
sudo cvfsck -wv
When cvfsck exits, it will report that the filesystem was modified. - Run the following command to ensure that the repair process was complete:
sudo cvfsck -nv<Volume_Name>
At this point, if cvfsck reports that the filesystem was modified or would have been modified, you should contact Apple technical support.
