I have an iPhone 3G that my sister gave my kids as a toy (play game). It worked fine without a sim card inserted. Recently, I upgraded IOS and the phone kept asking me to insert sim card to activate. What should I do ? I guess I just need a SIM card to activate it and then take it out ?

Do you mean the SIM card has to be in the iphone ? I do not use this iphone to call. I only need it as a toy. Maybe WIFI to internet.
