I have an iPhone 3G that my sister gave my kids as a toy (play game). It worked fine without a sim card inserted. Recently, I upgraded IOS and the phone kept asking me to insert sim card to activate. What should I do ? I guess I just need a SIM card to activate it and then take it out ?
A SIM card must be present to activate the device after a restore or update. The SIM does not have to be tied to an active account, it simply has to be present. If the phone is carrier locked, it must be from the correct carrier.
Yes. You have to have a SIM card in the phone to activate it. As I said, the SIM can be an old one that is no longer tied to an active account, but it must be present to activate the device after a restore or update.
