Q: error message:The folder “Drop Box” can’t be opened because you don’t have permission to see its contents

I try to open my Mac Books drop box and pull out a file i put in it and I get: The folder “Drop Box” can’t be opened because you don’t have permission to see its contents.

How do i get permission?

Went to System Prefrences, Sharing, File Sharing. Added users and have password set on both.???

Is this the "Drop Box" folder in your own home folder, or in another user's?

Each computer has it's own user "ID", lets call them iMac and Mac Air

Example of problem... on Mac Air computer in Finder, Favorites, there is Drop Box.

I put a file into there.

From my iMac (different computer), I connect to Finder, Shared, Mac Air, Public Folder, Drop Box... click on Drop box and get message.

I also try to drop the file into my Finder, iMac, Shared, Public Folder, Drop Box on my Mac Air... and still get message when I try to retreive the file on my iMac, Public Folder, etc...

Im not sure what it takes to gain permission on my own computers... with the same passwords set... the file sharing checked (in System Prefrences)... and users iMac/Mac Air included under users.

    Thanks for your help.

Because of the special file permissions that are set on that folder, you have to connect to the server as the owner in order to see its contents. The only purpose of that folder is to receive files from other users. They can put things in, but only the owner can open it. It's like a mailbox.
