I mistakenly deleted an important text conversation - swiping and deleting the wrong conversation. My iphone is backed up to icloud, but not on my conputer. Are there steps I can take to restore the deleted text messages from the icloud backup? If so what are they and where will I find the restored messages after the process? Any help would be very much appreciated.

Unfortunately, you cannot selectively restore from a backup, you either have to restore the whole phone or nothing.
Thank you for your reply. If I restore the entire thing, will I get back the deleted text messages? If so, by restoring the phone, do I lose anything else?
After the restore, where will I find the previously deleted SMS conversation?
Assuming your back up was taken before they were deleted they will repopulate your message app. Anything you lose as part of the restore can be redownloaded from iTunes or synced via iCloud, it's a lot of work for some texts though.

As for the actual process, the most recent back up was prior to my deletion. Three last questions (I hope...):
1) How will I know what I need to redownload from itunes?

1. I guess that depends what you have (sorry to be so vague)
2. Yes but I don't think it tells you where to start (settings > general > reset > erase.......)
3. Not that I know of, but a restart wouldn't do any harm, but then again, I've never restored my phone.
If you have backed your iPhone in iTunes, you can use iPhone SMS Backup & Restore to recory messages from iTunes backup back to your iPhone. Try it.
Since you have iCloud backup of your iPhone, you can restore from the iCloud backup directly.

If you don’t want to erase all the content and settings on your iPhone, replace them with the old data in the iCloud backup and lose the data generated after the backup. You can use the iPhone backup extractor to extract the text conversion from the iCloud backup.

I think recovering deleted text messages is easy now because you have backed up them on your iPhone. Before recovery, you should use your phone as less as possible in case the data in it will be covered. You can get help from some iPhone Data Recovery and refer to its guide of how to retrieve deleted text messages on iPhone or anything else related to how it works in restoring deleted text messages.
