Q: Why doesn't iSight work on Skype

So this is a fairly new Macbook, and I'm assuming that it is from 2011, and has all the software updates (I've been checking or updates a lot recently), and my girlfriend and I have found that my built in iSight camera doesn't work on my Macbook when we Skype.  While on Skype, I can see myself perfectly fine, crystal clear even, on the playback screen on the lower right hand corner, but she can't see me.  She tells me that it looks like im censored with pink squares, and the screen freezes, but she can still hear me.  Do note that my camera shows me just fine in the playback.  This is getting severely irritating, and I do not feel like spending a lot of money on another webcam when I "should" have a good one as it is already built in.  Please reply, every answer is helpful.

So welcome to  Discussions, Zakts420

Well done verifying that your Mac OS X software is up to date and that you are using the most current version of Skype that is compatible with your system.

You have also done some smart troubleshooting.  Because your camera works for Apple apps, the problem is with Skype, not your Mac.  Your GF should also check whether her video works properly with Apple apps.  If so, she should also verify that Skype works on her machine with some other contacts.   If not, the problem may be at her end, not yours.  If so, the following suggestions apply to her system, too.

Restarting the entire system including Mac, modem, and router, may be worth a try before further testing.  You may also want to try using Skype from a different internet connection to rule out problems related to your internet connection.

For Skype-specific problems like this, Skype's comprehensive support system should best be able to help you use their product with your (or your GF's) system.

    Start here:  https://support.skype.com/

Or, click this link for help specifically related to Mac video calls.

You can also search or post for help with your problem in Skype's dedicated Skype Discussions for Mac.  The Skype users who post there may have already solved the same problem.

If nothing else works, you can even sign in and ask for email help directly from Skype's Technical Support people.
